The only "linux apps" I use are:

PXELINUX
udpcast (via PXE)

Those two have got a real good niche, in my eyes. I'm working on a
cloning solution that is entirely network based, and those two play a
crucial role in it. But all the servers and the actual diskless OS'es I
use are all BSD based.

It's amazing how quiet things get when you don't run with flash support.
It's part of the reason I'm using BSD only on my box now. You might
get a messagebox saying "click ok to download the flash plugin" but it
just don't work. I'm flashless and enjoying it.

Yeah, I do the same thing with IE7. Download flash, install it, then
disable it. That way, you don't get constant messages to install it
because it IS installed, and you don't get annoying animated ads all
over the place because its disabled!

I'm flashless and enjoying it.

Well, I guess I'll just to have to keep replying to your "broken record"
rationalized response. Your Ubuntu jihad in this ng is not a -genuine-
attempt to help Vista users, no matter how many times you claim it is. Every
OS is a viable alternative. Thank god we don't have OS/2 freaks, or RedHat
freaks, or OS/X freaks posting constantly, day-in, day-out, that Vista sucks
and we should all try that other OS.

There are a number of other nix guys who hang out in this ng... one
difference between you and them is they don't barge in on ten threads a day
and parrot "Try Ubuntu." The other difference is that they, apparently, have
enough PC knowledge to actually offer assistance to other people. I've seen
your attempts at "assistance." You can't be serious. Oh, wait, you are. No
help whatsoever.

Ok, ok...a curriculum vitae (correct sp), is just a fancy word generally
used by members of academia and research instead of using the word résumé.
It is a term most often used in academic & research circles when
applying for a job, or a position as they prefer to call them.
Basically, they mean the same thing.
The main difference is length as in number of pages. A curriculum vitae
can be very voluminous...I've seen some run 22+ pages of single spaced
typing.
Whereas a résumé ideally should be all on one or two pages maximum.

No such thing. I wrote *curriculum* vitae, otherwise known as a resumé,
CV or BIO.

I know it's an international thing for those who are educated enough to
know what it is.

their hair out because of Vista and you keep posting your insults.

Why ask such a stupid question?

LiveCDs are used so that folks can get a feel or taste
of the product... the same reason why Microsoft has
released numerous VHD products.

But, most LiveCDs can also be installed.

Suggesting an alternative to the buggy, virus and malware prone, DRM,
WPA and WGA riddled OS is most definitely helping people. Lying about
and insulting people like Frank does most definitely helps no one.

To see if your hardware will work with Ubuntu, of course. You don't
really get a feel for it until you've updated it and installed the
programs you want and the codecs, video drivers, Beryl, etc.

Preaching Linux in a Windows group is the very definition of troll.
What kind of reaction would I get if I went to the Linux groups and
answered *every* request for help with "switch to Windows"?

Which it (mostly) did. The only thing that didn't work was the
wireless nic. Wired nic worked fine.

Sure you do. There were no apps that I wanted to install, since there
are none that I wanted period. For some people I'm sure it's good
enough, just not for me.

Because Alias raised the issue.

Exactly. That's what I used it for. I just didn't like the feel or
taste.

It doesn't install in VPC. I've tried several times, with 2 versions.

Not a helpful suggestion because Linux isn't

Buggy

Virus or malware prone.

Riddled with DRM.

Packaged with WPA and WGA.

Soooooooooooo, if you think one should have control over one's computer,
Ubuntu is obviously a better choice than Vista.

Don't like my suggestions? Don't read them.

Like I said, you really don't know what it's like until you install it.
The live CD won't show what Beryl can do, for example. You can't find
out what the search is like unless you've installed it and have
something to search for, etc., etc. You can't play with Streamtuner and
see how well it rips songs off the radio and converts them into MP3s. Of
course, if you went in with the attitude that you won't like it, it's
unlikely you will.

Ready for the Desktop.

Useful.

Easy to install/use.

Compatible with existing software sold everywhere.

Compatible with what your friends/neighbors/coworkers are running.

Sooooooo, if you want to actually run real applications on your
computer, and not spend months testing endless "distros" to see which
one is "right for you", Windows is obviously a better choice than Linux.

Don't like Windows? Go away.

But I already do all of that (and more) with Windows and OS X. What do
I gain with Linux?

Sounds like your attitude about Windows.
