Hi Dustin - you were right (again!) - I found it on Google Groups, so
I wasn' dreaming after all!

BD

Thank you for all that excellent information, Kayman. I just wish I'd
read
it all two or three years ago when (I thought) I was adequately
protected!

The 'Crap Cleaner' programme to which Troll_Lady is, I believe,
referring
may be found here: http://www.ccleaner.com/

It is highly recommended by the 'helpers' (like yourself) over on A/C
User2User. I'm surprised that you are unaware of it.

I'd wecome your view of CCleaner (if you have one!) TIA

I'd be most grateful if you would explain what programmes you used to
determine that you had inadvertently attracted two Trojan Downloaders onto
your machine. Did you actively seek to discover same or did your protection
pinpoint them automatically without your involvement? If the former, what
prompted you to search for them?

I'd also appreciate your advice on carrying out 'the status bar check' -
what is it? (Google didn't help me!)

TIA

I'm so sorry that I didn't respond to your sound advice, Tech B (aka Kerry
Brown) - I was probably too busy thinking about going boating again at the
time you posted. FYI - I believe in only one God.

I see that you have now been awarded MVP status. You must be extremely proud
of yourself and probably enjoyed a big hug from K.Dee too! Congratulations!

Oops. I missed this response. My apologies to the both of you. Kerry, I
didn't mean to make such a blanket statement, however, IE's history in so
far as security risks goes pretty much speaks for itself.

FYI - here's a question posed to me elsewhere recently:

"Who or what is Peter Foldes?
My MVP Profile at Microsoft is publicly viewable.
My AumHa Profile is publicly viewable".

I thought just about *everybody* knew you, Peter!

Hmmm!

I wonder if the thread is still active through Google Groups.

Let's see!

It is over a year old. Why bring this up. If it shows on your system then ...... sigh.... I don't know what to say to you.

Time to clean up your mess Dave

Hello Peter - I trust you are well.

Why bring it up again? Well, nothing has changed for newbies and as it's not been resolved, I
thought maybe Dan would help me figure things out.

Maybe if you were to email me (my Hotmail address is active) and suggest what I could/should do to
'clean up your mess' as you put it, some progress could be made. Please post a note here to advise
me if you do email as I don't often check that address. Thank you.

I'm equally happy for you to make suggestions here, though!

It is! Wow!

Does anyone know how long Microsoft leaves messages on its servers? (for these newsgroups)

Just because it is still cached on the web interface or
"archived" by google groups, it doesn't mean it is still
retained on the newsgroup server.

I probably wouldn't have been able to find it if it were
not for the (ugh) web interface URL you posted.

If you are using Outlook Express just reset the folders on the left. This
will dump all present messages and allow you to start anew.

Properties | Local File | Reset
