Why Do I Have to Sign In Every Time I Start My Laptop

Windows is now making me sign in every time I start my laptop now. Just happened this morning for the first time since I got this laptop 8 years ago. I haven't changed anything. When my opening screen picture (lock screen?) comes on, there is no personal photo in middle. I push the ESC button and the photo appears, with the sign-in box below. What's going on? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
