MY MONITOR DONT DISPLAY ANYTHING WHEN MY LAPTOP IS PLUGED IN!

im having a truble with my HP prodisplay p201. I have a laptop and im using my laptop to extend display using external monitors, when i bought HP prodisplay p201 monitor it turns out that it has no built in hdmi port so i bought hdmi to vga converter, it works fine when my laptop is in battery mode but when i pluged in my laptop while connected to the monitor, the monitor turns black and says "no input display". I tried everything from basic settings changes to full system reset but it still dont work when pluged in, PLEASE HELP I DONT WANT TO BUY A NEW MONITOR😭🙏.
