Cant log into laptop with Face ID and forgot pin. Asked for code to outlook email but never comes

Had and IT friend helping me with syncing problem between laptop and phone. Left laptop running and came back to check syncing status after 30/45 mins. Had to log in, but myFace ID would no longer work. Said I needed PIN. Wasnt sure which of many passwords and PINs was required. So said forgot my pin and asked to send a code. Code never arrived in my outlook email. Checked spam etc and also sent test emails from my outlook and my gmail. Those emails arrived but never got a code despite repeated requests. I guess my persistent trial caused me to locked out for some length of time. This was on
