Why I wont be using Vista again (Long)

Sounds like your hardware is old and not ready for Vista or ya just
don't have enough Horsepower to run it. Try Linux. It is as stable as
they come. :p

Really? I've only received 35 "critical" updates total so far, (remember to
NOT count the optional or recommended, especially if you have Ultimate or
Business since there are over 40 language packs that are optional)

For arguments sake, let's say the "78 critical updates" to be true
(which it isn't as Mic stated above).

XP is at SP2 and SP3 has just gone RTM. Have you seen the amount of
security updates in SP3 from SP2? SP3 has no real new features to boast
(except NAP integration...which is quite nice for businesses) but a vast
majority of the SP is just a security patch rollup.

Do you remember the amount of bugs and security holes in XP when first
released before SP1?

Probably not because the blog and forum community was a lot less
prominant back then. As opposed to now, where everyone who has the
slightest problem with a MS product will blog and post it in every forum
possible. ;)

Vista has actually had far less security patches because it has a
better security model than previous versions.

Not so. the WGA tool is included without any choice as to whether you
want that crap on your computer or not.

Mistake 1 was buying a Acer laptop and thinking it was worth a damn. Mistake
2, read mistake number 1. I've been running Vista since it's first beta
years ago. It's grown since then, but the problem is the hardware and
software developers catching up with today. They all have had the chance to
get their hind parts caught up but like most people they drag their feet, and
this is what happens. Having been through the tech support job, I know first
hand Acer laptops stink, and their stuff is never fully tested or compatible
with stuff that is newly released like Vista. They rushed it to the market
without properly testing it all, and what you got is what you paid for. To
this day, I got 2 Dell laptops running Windows Vista Ultimate with 0 downtime
and 0 crashes for over a year now, and one of them is still running the
release canidate.

Hm, have a Acer desktop that ran Vista like a pig.

Loaded Fedora on it. Impressed.
