surface laptop 7 on arm will not connect to microsoft wireless display adapter

My brand new surface laptop 7 on ARM will not connect to microsoft wireless display adapter, however my windows surface laptop 3 does connect, so clearly the problem is with the new machine. The machine sees the adapter, but when connecting, the machine just says ‘connecting’ for a while then stops. The adapter shows no signs of working. The machine is fully updated.However, as noted, my surface 3 laptop connect to the same adapter just fine. EDIT: I tested projecting from the Surface 7 to the Surface 3, and that works fine too, so the problem seems to be just the 7 to the wireless display ad
