Phone Number Issues.

Hello! I was trying to redeem my $10 amazon gift card because I had enough points within Microsoft rewards, however I needed to add a phone number. So, I did. I added my phone, and it sent an SMS message to my phone with a verification code. When I entered the verification code, it stated to me: "This alias cannot be added to your account. Choose a different alias." Can you please help, I am trying to obtain my $10 amazon giftcard.
