Hi,
I have a problem with Vista Home Basic on Dell Inspiron 1520. Currently the
only update left to be done is KB943899. After I do this system can't boot.
Running in safe mode shows that it stucks on
%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys.
Other windows updates installed: KB943411, KB943302, KB941644, KB905806,
KB941568, KB941569, KB942615, KB942624, KB943078, KB942763, KB942763,
KB941600, KB941649, KB933729, KB939653, KB941202, KB941651, KB936824,
KB933360, KB938194, KB938979, KB939159, KB932471, KB925902, KB929123,
KB929916, KB930178, KB931213, KB933579, KB935807, KB936021, KB936782,
KB937143, KB938123, KB938127, KB928089, KB929399, KB929735, KB930857,
KB931099, KB931573, KB931836, KB933928, KB935280, KB936357, KB936825,
KB937077, KB928253, KB929777.
What should I do if I want to have automatic windows updates turned on (now
I turned it off)?
If by any chance someone from Microsoft reads it, please modify updates so
I can just turn it on back again and everything will be all right...
Thank you for replies/actions.

I to found a problem with installing update KB943899, Vista just Stalls on
"configuring update". The round circle spins, stop a little, spins then
stop....etc.

I also notice that the keyboard locks in when the "round circle"(mouse
pointer) stops moving. Seems there some hardware conflict with this update. I
have an Asus P5N-E Sli motherboard, Core 2 duo E6600, 8800gts 320mb gpu,
Creative Xfi 64mb.

Had to do system restore after that patch.

Same problem here Marcin. I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with Vista Home
Premium 32 bits.
I saw in other forums this happens with other people with Dell laptops (
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=713500 )

Using http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx I reported
this. In reply there were some more detailed questions which I answered and
now I hope some Microsoft folks are sitting on that bug. To give it a
possibly higher priority, do the same.
Some more info from my side:
1) The content of the bluescreen flshing after stucking on
\Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys, before restart
<cite>
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage
to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives
or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is
properely configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive
corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0x80603BA0, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
</cite>
Of course I have no viruses, no new hardware in laptop and the disk is ok.

2) Log after "repair you computer" confirms the disk is ok. Most
interesting parts:
Number of repair attempts: 1
Number of root causes = 1
Root cause found:
A patch is preventing the system from starting.
Repair action: System restore
Result: Completed successfully. Error code = 0x0
Time taken = 77034 ms

3) I tried several options of booting ("Safe Mode", "Safe Mode with
networking", "Safe Mode with Command Prompt", "Enable Boot Logging",
"Enable low-resolution video (640x480)", "Debugging Mode", "Disable Driver
Signature Enforcement", "Start Windows Normally") after F8 numerous times.
After about 15 attempts of "Safe Mode" my comp once didn't hang/reboot but
managed to proceed. Windows was running. It finished configuring the
pluggin and other initial actions, I had no idea what to do more so I
restarted. The issue hadn't gone out.

I have the same problem. I have a custom made pc. It has a ASUS SLI
MB. The cycle of freezing is the same. I ran counter strike and the
game would cycle the same way online. MS needs to fix this fast.

Similar specs to to Knightospr:

I have an Asus P5N-E Sli motherboard, Core 2 duo E6420, and nVidia 8600GT.
I also did a restore point to return to boot.

Problems here too - Dell Latitude D630, vista business. Bluescreen on
boot after install, have to system restore. Not very impressed!

Me not. I received reply that I should contact Dell (sic! Dell is not to
blame for this problem) since I have OEM version. I only HOPE that they
recognised this issue as a bug and are solving it. Can someone having a
problem and non-OEM put a request to ensure proper course of action?

Not just Dell users, Mesh owners are having the same problem, if you google
this update there are more and more people having trouble.
Methinks MS have really cocked this one up.
I contacted MS support and was directed here !!!!

Hi Folks,

I had the same problem on my Dell Inspiron 1520. I have found a solution
(without uninstalling update KB943899). I did three manual updates after I
installed KB943899:

1. Installed the latest Bios-Update from Dell (A04):
--> did not change anything, problem still there
2. Installed the Intel Mobile Chipset Drivers (Dell-Version R153997, A02):
--> did not change anything, problem still there
3. Installed Intel Matrix Storage Manger V7 (Dell Version R154198, A01):
--> Problem solved, no further problems for four hours now

I would be interested if this solves the issue for others as well?

Hi there,

I have the Vaio pcg-8z1m notebook. KB943899 update fails but without big
boot problems. I got the blue screen once and sometimes it takes two boot
sequences to boot. 10 times I have downloaded the update: it installs fine,
but when I reboot, it still has failed to install according to the update
overview.

All the other updates were succesfull, however I had to install half of them
twice after failure at the first attempt.

I updated also my chipset and network drivers. Than restart and installing
the KB943899. It works now. I suppose update of disk driver (R154198) is
crucial. Thanks for help! I consider this issue solved.

Thanks for your recommendation, I’d some previous pain working out why the
notebook was blue screening finally I found the offending update after 2x OS
installs later...
After running the Vista Business OS install I and failing the notebook after
installing KB943899 I was able to safe boot and uninstalled the KB943899
update. After which I set the KB943899 update to be hidden. All was working
fine.
After reading you findings I decided to give it a go with the intention to
roll back if it didn't work (fingers crossed).
After applying Intel Matrix Storage Manager V7 (Dell Version R154198, A01)
then installing the KB943889 the notebook is running fine. Thank you for your
efforts. I hope this works for others, good luck.
I'm running a Dell Latitude D630
