How do I stop onedrive from taking up so much space?

I pressed free up space didnt work, i unlinked it and deleted some stuff off one drive, deleted 80% of my files yet still didnt work, and i cant get them back anymore. I can barely do anything anymore, due to low storage space and its really pissing me off.
