Unlinking OneDrive

I had to get a new laptop and upgrade to Windows 11 after using Windows 10 without issue for many years.The default process resulted in my files being backed up on onedrive. I do not want my photos or files in the cloud so I unlinked onedrive. All of a sudden I was over my storage limit and at risk of not being able to use my outlook account that I've had for years due to lack of storage. To fix the issue I went into OneDrive and deleted all my photos to create space. Doing that seemed to result in the photos on my hard drive being deleted as well.
