External hard drive and especially its folder are very slow and as far as stop responding

Hello. I am going to start by saying I was having issues with the external hard drive lately since December 22. It used to work fine and after I safely removed it for a while (I can't remember if my PC was on or turned off) and then plugged it, it has been suddenly extremely slow and as far as almost always lagging for like far over 10 minutes (I'm still able to copy-paste its data).
