Any way to change new computer login from M365 to Microsoft personal?

Just bought my laptop from my employer when I left but it won't let me log in with my personal Microsoft account. it's Windows 11 and when I enter my personal email to set up it says I must have a work or school account. Is there any way to change the login to allow for a personal account? I have also reached out to IT to see if they can change it to personal. Thanks!
