You mean you were using msconfig and got this message?

An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a

service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make

the specified changes.

If you have an HP printer installed, the problem is most likely the

HPZ12 service.

The msconfig changes seem to work, but the error message is annoying.

There is a possibility you will lose communications with your HP

printer if you want to prevent the error message. This may not be a

problem if you don't care about the communications or never use those

HP features that require it.

You can also live with the message, knowing the changes really worked

or ask HP and they will usually suggest reinstalling Windows.

Depending on your comfort level with making system changes, here are

two workarounds.

Are you sure you are logged on using the Windows Administrator account ?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/tips/advanced/adminaccount.mspx

"Computer Administrator"

In Windows XP, there are two types of accounts, "limited" and "computer

administrator". Having a "computer administrator" account is NOT the same

as the "Administrator" account. In other words, *you* are the user and have

a "computer administrator" account. There is a user called the

"Administrator". It is detailed in the link I provided.

If you don't have any other user accounts created then you are the

ADMINISTRATOR by default. All XP systems must have actual ADMINISTRATOR

account (normally hidden unless you know how to get at it) and other named

individual who is also an administrator but he is normally visible.

Now if you are the only user then you just go to windows without the startup

screen unless you also created a password to your account.

You can stop this darn from starting by going to Start/Run/Msconfig /all and

then stopping this from Services tab.

Hey I have the same problem, you need to understand that I have not

had the problem before

and I am using the same account I always use, ie the only account ever

used and it has allways

allowed me to change msconfig so it's not the account.

Have you investigated these ideas and see if they apply to you:

This type of message can also be cause by some "malware" software that

have taken over your PC. Use known good ant-spyware tools

(SuperAntiSpyware or Anti-Malware) and check to see if you have been

"hit" by some type of "spyware" malware.
