At Windows update it tells me they've made 'improvements' to the site... I
click install and it downloads and copies to 100%, but provides the following
error message saying it cannot show the site. (below)

[Error number: 0x80070020]
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are

Suggestions?

I am pasting the suggest made by MVP. It works, here it is from a previous
posting. On the WU Website, select your history of updates - now click on
failed update (red mark)
and see if there is an error code.
If there is an error code, write it down and post back or in the
alternative, do a search
for the error code.

and/or
How to view the Update log in Windows:-

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type: %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and then click OK.

Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error
code(s)
associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install. If
appropriate copy and
paste the error codes into this thread so someone may be able to assist you.
On the other
hand, you may be able to find the error code and other suggestions by
searching the
Newsgroup.

Also check Windows folder for file called KB******.log (****** = number of
update ie
KB896688) and post the contents of the failed update.
This may provide further clues as to why the update failed.

You receive a "0x80070020 The process cannot access the file because it is being used by
another process" error message when you try to download an update from Windows Update or
from Microsoft Update

If you're running SpyBot S&D's "teatimer" then you'll need to end the process in task
manager - thanks to VBBob

Thank you for posting the Spybot TeaTimer tip...I was receiving the generic
error Error number: 0x80070020 about Windows update...I tried disabling my
firewall, that didn't work, but ending the Tea Timer task did work. Odd,
since Windows update didn't have this conflict previously with Tea Timer.

Thanks for the Spybot Teatimer tip. Everything worked once I disabled it as
you suggested.

If anyone out there has Spybot Search & Destroy and while trying to run
Windows update you receive the error number 0x80070020 and this message:

"Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the
requested page".

I corrected the problem in my computer. It was the "Tea Timer" in Spybot S&D.

Bring up Spybot S&D and click on mode.....then select advanced mode....click
yes in the pop up box.

Then click tools at lower left....then click resident.....then uncheck the
Resident "Tea Timer" box.

X out and that should do it and hopefully most will be able to get the
Windows updates.

You can go back after updating and put "Tea Timer" back on by following the
above steps. You may have to do the same thing next time you update unless
Spybot S&D fixes the glitch in the meantime.

PS - "Tea Timer" ( if you have Spybot S&D) is an overall protection of
settings on your computer.

Here's an easy simple way to disable Spybot Search & Destroy so you
will be able to downonload Windows updates if you get this message.....

"Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page".

Error 0x80070020

How? Right click the spybot icon (on the start bar near the clock) and
choose "Exit Spybot-S&D Resident".

As simple as that.

You can go back and enable it after you update.
