Wrapping issues with Word document

I'm having a problem with Word document, specifically two columns per page. The left column fills to the bottom of the page then wraps to the right column and fills it with the remaining text, whether it be only a few lines of text or enough to go to the bottom of the page. However, on the last page, the length of the columns are equal even if there are only ten lines of text. I could live with that, but the problem is when I attempt to add additional text to the last sentence on the last page, it move that text to the left column as if I am beginning a new page.
