My understanding is that if you want to convert a Word 2002 file from .doc

to be a Word 2007 .docx file, you have two options - use Save As or the

Convert button (after you click the Office Button). Save as will create the

..docx file and keep the .doc file in tact. Convert is supposed to convert

the actual file from being a .doc file to a .docx file -- leaving you with

one file. We want to be able to "Convert" some of our files, but when we

click the button to convert the file and then click the Save button for it

to take affect (the file extension then changes to .docx), instead the "Save

As" dialog box appears and forces us to use that method. What is really

weird is that if the file is on my desktop, the Convert button works the way

it should. But, if the file is on our network (where most of them are), the

Convert button doesn't work. Does anyone know why this is happening??

I found the answer to the question below on the Microsoft web site and will

paste it in here in case anyone else needs this info:

Note If the original .doc file is saved in a location other than your

local drive, Word keeps the original .doc file and creates a new .docx file

when you click Convert.
