Wireless Icon red X

On a Lenovo E540 Thinkpad the wireless icon is showing a red X and cannot connect wirelessly, i checked the wireless adaptor it's enabled. There is no wireless radio. In BIOS it's enabled. Did a diagnostic no issue detected. swapped the wireless card but still the same issue. uninstalled and reinstalled the driver same issue. Tested with a usb wireless adaptor and had wireless connection.

Anybody have a clue what is going on.
