Wired headphones won't connect

Hi. My wired headphones won't connect to my device. My audio uses my systems speakers instead of my wired headphones. It doesn't even recognize the fact that I put something in the headphone jack.I don't really understand why. I've had this laptop and headphones together for 6 years, and never had a problem. Just today I did a factory reset because I've been encountering problems with my laptop, and only now will my headphones not work for some reason. Please help.
