Windows XP SP2 Installation

I am installing SP2 via the Windows Update link but it seems to be stuck.
The pop up window says it is finiliazing installation and "performing
cleanup" but it has been in this same place for the last hour. Any
suggestions?

DO NOT shut the system down. Be patient and wait ... overnight if necessary.
If the system is still "performing cleanup" come tomorrow morning, shut
it down by holding in the power button for about 10 seconds.
If it still will not shut down, unplug it.
Restart the system.
What's the system state now ?
