Windows XP Hard Drive Restricted

I have a computer that stopped working and one of the drives in it had Windows XP installed in it. And if you plug in the hard drive to a computer through some Sata to USB adapter than when you try to retrieve data off the drive like in the "My Documents" folder. I asks you for permission and no matter how hard I try if I get into the folder none of the files can be read.Is there some way to get the files off without fixing the computer?
