I recently ran a repair for windows xp pro. Now when I boot up windows tells
me that I need to install a lot of windows updates, but when I try to install
them it tells me that "the following updates could not be installed." It
tells me this same thing everytime I boot up now. Any help?

Method 1:
You may wanna try downloading Windows Update Agent 3.0 manually,
save it to a folder and run the EXE with parameter "/wuforce"
(without the quotes) afterwards:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

Start -> Run ->
"[Complete Path to EXE]\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce [Hit Enter key]

Method 2:

I have the exact same problem!! 81 updates all download then fail to
install. This happened when I did a repair on Windows XP Pro with SP2.
Before that Automatic Updates worked fine. Some one help, It's getting
frustrating.

Thanks a million. Method 1 worked a treat and I am now fully updated. What
was the problem? Will that happen every time I do a repair on XP?

Fine :)

Most likely, yes. Seems to me, that after an repair installation Windows
mixes the WUA 3.0 and 2.0 file versions and is stuck. Re-registering
the relevant DLL either manually or (IMHO preverable) by reinstalling
WUA 3.0 fixes that issue.

BTW: For those having IE7 installed and need to execute an repair instal.
read this first: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917964/en-us

I tried both of these methods and neither worked. When I tried to install
manually it told me that it was already installed. Any other options?

While installing Windows Update Agent 3.0? Well, that's not too surprising
since you haven't set the /wuforce parameter, true?

http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe
*Save* the EXE into a folder, let's say "C:\Downloads". After the
download completed, type the following exactly and including every
quote and space under "Run" in the Start menu:

"C:\Downloads\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce

Hit the [Enter] key afterwards or click on "OK" to start the instal-
lation.
