Windows Media Player. Cannot attach album picture.

Windows 11, version 24H2. I cannot attach album picture in Windows Media Player. When I try to do this, I get a message that says, "The album art cannot be changed while using the album song". No song is used. I get this information whenever I try to add an image to any album where the picture is missing. If I try to do the same thing in the new "Media Player" app, the embedded album picture will appear, but it will disappear after you save the changes. Any idea? Thanks.
