Windows Live Mail Sign In

I am a Windows 10 user. Yesterday I logged into my Microsoft Account for the first time in years to update my telephone contact number. I think I got a message to say this would take 30 days to complete. I then shut down my PC. Today, when I launch Windows Live Mail, I get a message "Sorry, there was a problem signing you in" OK or Cancel. Hit OK takes me into a never ending loop through the Microsoft A/c login process. Hit Cancel and I can access my emails. Then I find (i) all my contacts have disappeared and (ii) the most recently received e-mail is displayed as a blank in the right hand pan
