Windows freezes continuously during application updates

Hi all, I'm running on a fairly decent Win 11 Desktop (specs below)I have plenty of ram and CPU power. However, every time I update a game, my computer freezes once every 3-5 seconds. It's not just a network thing. The entire computer freezes. I can't move the mouse, alt+tab to another window, etc. As soon as the update is done, however, everything is instantly back to normal. Anyone know what might be causing this? I have an Asus motherboard, and I read somewhere that there could be an outdated BIOS version, but I'm not sure how to check.
