Defender was working in Win 8.1 but after the upgrade to 10 I get a notification "Your PC isn't being monitored because the app's service is stopped. You should restart it now." I select restart now and get the following message:
"The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."
Error code: 0x80070422

Task manager services shows Window defender service startup type as "disabled"
I would prefer to get Defender running so I have some malware protection. I have had no antivirus besides Defender running on this computer, an HP Envy laptop. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have reviewed the posts on Defender and Windows 8.1 but since it was running on Win 8.1 before the upgrade to Win 10 they appear not to be relevant.
