I came into the office today and got the message "Windows cannot load the

locally stored profile." --- I've had this happen once or twice before.. I

rebooted and things were fine. This time it didn't work.

So, I've been fooling around for like 3 hours setting everything up as I had

it previously. I figured out how to get back all my Firefox bookmarks and

passwords. They were still stored under my username. Also got back most of

my Thunderbird emails.. I lost my sent box and some of my inbox. Got back my

Outlook emails as well. I'm only using Outlook mainly to communicate here.

Here's the problem.. some of my installed programs were missing, so I went

to re-download them. I have Firefox set to save items to my desktop. After

downloading they were nowhere to be seen! That's where the problem comes in.

I noticed my new profile is stored as C:\Documents and

Settings\TEMP\Desktop --- my old profile was the same except replace TEMP

with my username.

So, even though I have it set to save to Desktop, Firefox is still saving my

files to the old desktop.

I've asked on the Firefox forums what to do about that, but I'll ask here

should I be worried that my profile is in a directory marked TEMP? What do I

do?

Is this in an Office with a Server ?

If so then it is a server / pc issue as roaming profiles may be switched on

and requires server IT intervention.

Being in TEMP profile means any new settings will not be copied back to

server.

If its a workgroup pc then Im stuck... :-)
