Windows BSOD after ram upgrade

I have a x99-a motherboard with an i7 5960x coupled with quad channel 4x4gb=16gb ram for many years running fine. Just last week a friend gave me a pack quad channel 64 gb ram 4x16, so I gave it a try. Installed it, tried it for the whole day no problem. Then at day end I was going to hit shutdown but accidentally clicked reboot, walk away came back to a BSOD. Then I tried a couple more reboots still BSOD when booting into windows saying your device ran into a problem we'll restart for you. So I tried system restore, did not work.
