Windows 8.1 pro product key didn't work.

Hi I have an old pc which was running windows 8.1 pro and I recently tried to upgrade to windows 8.1 With Media Center using my current product key using add features to windows in control panel my product key worked there but when I restarted my system Windows didnt activate can someone please help me. thanks
