I sure hope you can help me too! I also purchased a Win 7 Pro 64 bit (Dell E6440 Latitude) laptop from Amazon. It is a factory refurbished by Dell. I started having WU problems at the end of January, and though all the downloads I made on 12/30-31/15 on day of delivery through current will show - but ONLY if I choose "Installed Updates" at bottom left of WU control panel page. They do not show under WU - including "show hidden" and when I click "show update history" the screen is completely blank.

I did register when I got the computer, have had other online help, etc., but now it seems that WU doesn't recognize my OS as 7Pro 64 bit.

I don't want to have to do a reinstall with my disk that came with the computer; I know I did wrong with not doing system backup except once, and afraid to do that as I'm not sure that it contains all and/or would work correctly. I did make system restore points along the way, but also afraid to do that.

I had been getting the WIN 10 reminders for free upgrade, and thought that might be a work-around solution (though I planned on waiting til the end of the eligible upgrade year I have so more bugs were worked out by MS) of last resort: I had downloaded the WIN 10 file but that also won't work now. Yet I still keep getting the "Free Upgrade" notices that I am eligible for based on my Win 7 Pro purchase....

It's as if the MS WU system doesn't recognize I have 7 Pro 64 bit when it comes to updates, yet just again today I ran the WIN "performance/experience index" - which always showed the OS as WIN 7 Pro 64 bit -but it never used to say update 7, it said update 10 - and have attached today's screen. This alternates between 64 and 32, and I believe the system is running on 32 bit now.

At this point I'd be more than happy to do the upgrade to 10 just to keep my files and programs intact. But there is an additional problem in that I am running out of space after only owning this for just under 2 months! So I know something is wrong.

I also made the mistake of loading AVG and Duplicate Finder - then uninstalling - back at the end of January. I also installed the Win Security/Defender files. When I found more files from the first 2 programs after uninstalling, I deleted them. I also did the same with McAfee files. That is where the problem began, I believe. I think I might have deleted something or goofed files up somehow. Or maybe those programs renamed some essential WIN files with their name, and being dumb I deleted them?

The problem seems to be getting worse, and now - though I registered immediately with MSFT - a new menu item named "Is this Windows Copy legal?" appears in the help menu.

I have been on every forum, help page, run every troubleshooting option, etc., so unless you have something new and magical (hope so!) please don't refer me to any more KB articles or forum sites for do it yourself tips. I have also done SAFE mode, SAFE with networking, clean boot, etc. While more info is available to VIEW, none of the processes correct WU issue. In fact, it tells me there is no issue, yet never updates. I've also done the tweak repair, scan and repair disk, etc.

I registered Windows when I first got this after the holidays. I've been on with Remote Desktop for something else before this started. And WU and WUA were working and recognizing the system before with no problem, so there must be evidence that this is a legal OS somewhere in MSFT land :)

Attaching some screenprints for examples, and have many more to prove what I'm saying. I do have an official MSFT WIN 7 disk that came with laptop, but really don't want to use that option as anything other than last desperate measure. Besides, I had already done a legit SP1 install along with over 30 WU when I first registered.

Thanks for any help, I would be very grateful. This is really getting depressing.
