Whenever I try to update Windows 7 to the latest version with all the security updates and patches, I keep getting this error (80072EE2) and it doesn't update. On top of that, none of the apps on the computer seem to be able to connect to the internet (Except Google Chrome for some reason). I am now stuck on Windows 7 Home Premium x64 version 6.1.7600 Build 7600. If anyone knows of a solution, pls tell me.

Backstory:

Due to OS corruption after a major BSOD on my Asus Notebook U30Jc, I reinstalled Windows 7 with the system restore discs (5 in total) I made a while ago (The computer is around 10 years old now). The OS corruption broke file explorer, many features stopped working, and Windows Update could download updates but could never install them. The display scaling was also broken.

Today I reinstalled windows with my 5 restore discs, and went through the installation procedure successfully. All the issues created by the previous BSOD were not present. Google Chrome and other Asus applications were pre-installed. All files and data were deleted and reset. I thought everything was working fine, so I began my usual stuff like installing Microsoft Edge, and Norton Security.

Edge installer couldn't connect to the internet. My wifi is fine, and the computer managed to connect to the home network without issues. Chrome downloaded the Edge installer without issues.

Norton couldn't run on that version of Windows 7 probably because it was an outdated build that no longer worked. I opened up Windows Update, and ran the Update process, only to find that it gave me that error.

I have checked the Support pages and downloaded and successfully installed "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3020369)". I have also tried to manually install other updates I found on your Support pages, but they were not available for my PC. I have also downloaded the network drivers from the Asus support page, but that hasn't helped either.

I can connect to wifi with the PC. I can use Google Chrome with the PC, however it as basically no security protection at all, due to the inability for other applications to connect to the internet. When I check the network adapter settings, it says my IPv6 connectivity has no internet access, but IPv4 has internet. Whats the difference?
