Windows 7 reinstall issue

Hello. I have an old Dell laptop I am passing on to my grandson. I have completed a reset but now it wont reinstall windows 7. As soon as the start up screen appears there is an error message saying there is an unexpected error please restart. But the same message comes up. I have no disc and have no idea how to get this laptop up and running again
