I am having trouble getting my Windows 7 to update. Recently it has been asking me to restart for updates and despite repeated restarts, still asks to restart for updates. I have tried reinstalling service pack 1 and that seemed to do fine, though I did not want to pay for winzip20, so I didn't install that. I tried to install the convenience rollup KB3125574 and the April 2015 servicing stack update KB3020369, but it again got stuck on checking for updates (this was recommended on Plugable: https://plugable.com/2016/06/08/windows-7-wont-update-what-to-do/). I then tried to do a system restore and got a failure message upon reboot 0xc0000022. I then tried to undo the system restore and got error message 0x80070005. Now it lists the last update as 7/26/16 instead of 8/2/16 that it was before. I'm currently running the Windows update standalone installer and it is stuck on checking for updates.
I should also mention that I had originally gone to the Microsoft chat people to fix the update issue and all they did was turn off the updates... hello!!! Clearly I should keep updating it, and since it's stuck and unable to update, disabling updates entirely will not solve the problem. **** microsoft?
So hence, now I'm trying to solve this problem by myself and seem to be continuing to break stuff. Please help.
