Printer suddenly stopped printing after I fixed paper jam. Looking through various other forums, it seemed to be due to a printer spooler error. I went through all the steps suggested, and occasionally got a print from what had gathered in the queue. Looking through "devices" it says the printer is offline - and there is no place that I can find to turn it back on. I tried stopping the spooling completely, turning it back on, turning off & on and unplugging the printer. Going through the Troubleshooter, it told me printer was turned off! Now it says I have a "printer error" with 4 documents in my queue, when previously it had said offline.
Should I completely uninstall the printer and reinstall? Basically, I now have a very big copy machine.
Incidentally, I've had to push ahead my conversion to 10; I want to fix the printing part first (offline printing is
NOT checked, another suggestion I've read) HP says I've got the latest driver - no updates available.
Coincidentally, there was a massive Windows update download at about the same time the printing problem started - all of which failed to install, according to the log. Possibly a connection? If they "failed" I guess I can't uninstall them. I've tried Recovery twice - no change. More than once, I've had big overnight downloads, and within a day, the computer gets very wonky; slow, whatnot, until I "Recover" to a previous date. Or I have no connection to the internet, unless I Recover.
I read another question here which referred to Hardware and Audio on the Control Panel. I don't have that, only Printers and Devices. There's not much that I can change when I go into it.
Everything is set properly, per advice boards, on the Services Print Spooler item.
I'm stumped.
