My main partition is 249GB. I got down to 5GB free space (according to Explorer) and so I deleted some files. I moved 70GB of downloads to another drive, yet Windows is still showing 5.6GB free space.
I have disabled al system restore points.
I have run malware finders (multiple different) and they find nothing.
I have done the disk cleanup and defrag, nothing changed.
I have run both TreeSize and spacesniffer (which I prefer) and both show I am using about 140GB of the 249GB partition. Why isn't Windows reporting the other 79GB as free space?
Is there a fix for this problem? I have seen it discussed on numerous sites and forums, but never seen a fix.
The only thing that seems to work is un-installing software. For instance, I uninstalled a program that took up 2.7GB and now Explorer reports 8.1 GB free of 249GB.
Among other things, this is preventing me from installing updates like .Net framework 4.6 and the PowerShell upgrade from 4 to 5.
I'm getting really frustrated. Any suggestions?
