Windows 7 deactivated after failed upgrade

I tried updating my Windows 7 laptop to windows 10 a few days back using the Windows 10 upgrade advisor. It had an oem version of windows 7 (and I had lost all documents relating to the Windows key). The update started and the computer rebooted to a screen which showed it was upgrading. At about 40%, the upgrade failed and it restored my previous os. Now, however, the os has deactivated, preventing me from upgrading
