Windows 11 sound issue: headphones vs Dell monitor speakers

Hii just got a dell S2725H monitor with speakers. my windows 11 sound setting will not recognize the speakers, reverting to headphones. to tet sound from the monitor speakers i have to restart the computer. this is annoying. what can i do to set the monitor speakers to default?
