windows 11 external monitor not playing audio

so yesterday the audio was just fine and i could hear audio coming out the speakers of my monitor with nothing coming from my laptop. today i turned everything on and noticed audio was strictly coming from only my laptop and there was nothing out my monitor. i've checked sound settings but it only says realtek audio without a second option.
