Windows 11 explorer.exe is crashing

Windows 11 explorer is crashing on my laptop. Once it crashes, the desktop goes black. I can still invoke software using ctl-alt-del and the task manager, but there is no start menu, task bar, etc. I need to recover from a previous restore point to get it working, but that is only a temporary fix, eventually it crashes again. I have tried the dism sequence to fix the problem, and I am fully up to date with Windows and my nvidia card drivers. I have captured this error from the event log at them time of the crash:Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 10.0.
