Windows 11 desktop taskbar sound icon (speaker icon) does not change when muting or unmuting by pressing mute button on my keyboard

I have windows 11 and I have an asus keyboard it has a mute button on it. Usually when I window out of something the sound will mute and then unmute when I reopen that window and the task bar speaker icon will change along with the sound changing. Recently I had several updates through asus armoury app and a windows update thought that might fix things but it has not. I have tried restarting windows explorer I have tried uninstalling and restarting my computer that does not work there are also no updates to be had that I have found. If I have Realtek selected for my sound output device it work
