Windows 11 continues to set Edge as default browser after every reboot.

I've gone into Windows 11 settings and manually set Opera as my default browser and verified that Opera is set as default for .pdf, .htm and .html files. However, every time I reboot, the browsing related defaults are set back to Edge.This misbehavior has only started in the last few days. How do I smack Windows 11/Edge into submission so I can set Opera as my current browser of choice? (note: Win 11, Edge, and Opera have the latest updates applied.)
