So, with just one day left of the free upgrade to Windows 10, I decide to bite the bullet and attempt to upgrade my primary office PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10 yesterday expecting to have the PC out of action for much of the afternoon.
After it seemingly got stuck on numerous occasions, it eventually would keep persevering but in the end, I had to give up and leave the office with the upgrade at 86%.
Hoping to arrive in the office this morning to see a successful upgrade to Windows 10, I found it had reverted and restored Windows 7.
A quick search for the error code online (8007002C-4000D) showed tons of other users with the same issue. The general consensus from that error is to uninstall your antivirus software and disconnect from the LAN prior to upgrading.
I checked the Windows Update error logs for any other useful hints as to what might the problem have been (which it seemed not) only to notice that there was a full 12 hours or so between when I started (13:25) the Windows 10 upgrade and when the Windows Update log was written to again (01:30). As this is my primary PC, I don't have the time to repeatedly attempt the upgrade perhaps with having to try tinkering settings etc each time to find a solution/workaround.
In typical Microsoft fashion, this proves to be yet another awful upgrade experience...
I wouldn't mind upgrading to Windows 10 but I am afraid it will now have to be at a time when I can spare potentially 40+ hours with no need to use my primary office PC - not that I find anything wrong with Windows 7 mind.
I have re-downloaded Windows 10 so it is upgrade ready. Even though today is the last day of free-upgrade entitlement, if I already have Windows 10 downloaded, will I still be able to upgrade for free after today?
