About a week ago my machine attempted to install updates that were pushed-down automatically. The update process appeared to complete but the machine would not boot beyond the blue screen / spinning circle animation.
I tried running the startup repair process but it was unable to find any issues. The only way to get back into the machine is by rolling it back to an earlier restore point.
After the restore, everything works fine but Windows keeps attempting to install the updates again. ....which leaves me right back at the spinning animation / dead machine the next time I reboot.
I tried selecting the 'defer updates' option to prevent the update from running automatically but it has no effect. Within a day or so, the update gets downloaded again and the machine wants to run it at the next reboot.
Uninstalling recently installed programs does not fix the problem. Disconnecting peripherals does not fix the problem. My hardware is not bad. My applications are not bad. The update is bad. Very bad indeed.
Basically, Microsoft broke my machine with one of it's updates and there appears to be no workaround other than to restoring to an earlier version daily.
What do I do now? Honestly, I'm just about ready to demand a refund and install Linux instead. None of the suggestions that I've seen so far provide more than a temporary solution.
