Windows 10 photo app not working

I just upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10. Photo app does not appear to work. When I click on a photo, I get a black screen, and the little blue dots at the top just keep whizzing buy. When the app tries to build albums, it just shows up as grey tiles. I can open the photos with no problem using the old classic Windows Photo viewer.
