I have a simple environment setup where I have Server 2016 configured as a boot server and I have a computer configured with the network adapter firmware set to boot iSCSI. I can install Factory Media Windows 10 1809 directly to the iSCSI LUN, but Factory Media Windows 10 1909 will not. I was made aware that 1909 will not boot iSCSI with the pagefile enabled so edited the WIM and removed the pagefile and rebuilt the Factory 1909 Media. Still no go. I get an IRQL Not equal error on the NDIS.sys driver just after the disk partition step. So I looked at the 1809 Setup install log and I saw the a DISM commands that appeared that appeared to add the iSCSI network device /add-netadapter and a command to check the image?? /Is_Serviceable. I am assuming the add-netadapter command adds the adapter where the wpflws_lower and wfplws_upper and a few other services are not bound to the adapter. I am guessing the /is_serviceable does some kind of cleanup. The remainder of the log seemed to setup the boot manager but it was unclear how I would replicate it. I would good info on how to replicate the remaining, but that still may not fix it??
So, I created with the Windows Deployment Kit special media then manually added the DISM commands after the install. Once again a failure. The Deployment project did get much further however I get a storage device not found on the second bootup. I did confirm it installed to the LUN. I am guessing that I am missing some commands or setup that allows the boot manager to see the device properly. If this is the full process and something else is causing the issue in the WIM that I built. The only thing I see could be the KDNIC adapter in my WIM System hives. I need help on this one. I am hoping the forum will give me a better option than trying 1809 setup with a 1909 WIM.
Thanks
