Windows 10 21H1 update fails on first boot with critical process dies after performing 49% update

I am running Windows 10 2004. The system has 24 GB of storage and C drive has 1.4 TB of free space. When attempting the update through the UPDATE Wizard, the update fails with an error code of 0x80070017. The error code is 0xC1900101 - 0x30017 CRITICAL PROCESS DEAD. At that point, the system reboots and attempts to restart the installation. This fails, so the system restores the original settings. I have the system configured with storage spaces, as well as a variety of MS and non-MS products installed, so doing a clean install is not an option. What other actions can I take?
