Window updates go missing after pause

When I see that a restart is required for updates and that it will restart automatically outside active hours I pause it in case I get into active hours and I'm still working since I can restart it myself. However when I unpause it the updates that were queued and that ostensibly essential and in need of a restart to update properly have gone missing and when I restart they do not appear. Sometimes they will appear to be installing while the computer is running even though it hasn't restarted and other times they have simply gone missing.
