Ok. I was having issues with update hanging after a new hdd and clean copy of win7 installation. I had some updates installed but then it was hanging on 'Checking For Updates'. Since I had nothing to lose, it seemed easier just to do another clean reinstall and begin from scratch. I formatted and reinstalled win7 ONLY. I did not install anything else before win updates. I found the issue- I successfully completed several updates, when I ran update again there was an update for Windows Update Service, so I updated it, that was the ONLY update selected and installed. On reboot, I went into windows update to check for any additional update and it now hangs on 'Checking For Updates'. So it is definetly the Windows Update Service update that is causing this issue. It is NOT my copy as this was happening on the first clean install with updates after Windows Update Service updated, and now on a second clean install and updates. So it is the Windows Update Service update causing this hang. I don't know how to fix this since it doesn't seem to have an Uninstall option available under Uninstall an Update, except to do ANOTHER clean reinstall of Win7 and update everything BUT Windows Update Service update, which is what I may be doing. But MS needs to fix this Winfows Update Service update. I hope this helps MS to resolve this issue now that they know where the problem is- again, the problem is within the Windows Update Service update. If you have any further questions or comments feel free to contact me. If you have a fix for this- please let me know. Thank you!

NOTE: After uninstalling Win7 SP1 update, my Win7 Update Service is now working again. So there must be a conflict between SP1 update and Windows Update Service update. I will edit this if I find any other issues, but for now I am going to install all updates I can before attempting to update SP1
