Wifi Adapter not working

so my wifi adapter is having some sort of malfunction, i tried a network reset, i tried the trouble shooter, i even tried redownloading the necessary drivers. so far nothing has worked and the wifi option for network has vanished entirely from my computer, when i check hardware and connection properties the wifi adapter says not operational, and disconnected but it also wont let me do anything to change or fix it, i really dont want to do a factory reset but am worried i might not have any other choice. what can i do to solve this problem
