Why would my computer move half my files to the recycle bin, without my permission?!?!?!?!

Super glad I have a phone number to call with such a serious problem. I just restarted my computer after noticing some adobe documents were not opening. Upon restarting, I had a PESKY alert that FORCED ME to choose to backup my files using "One Drive". I clicked passed this message, because there were no other options. And noticed my screen looked very different. I navigated to the "one drive" options and immediately cancelled the "backup" option.
